Once upon a time there was a princess. She was friends with a toad for a long time, but it was time for her to marry. Finally, she forced the issue.
“Toad, what do you think of getting married?” she asked him.
“Sure,” said Toad. “I’d like that.”
So they got married. After a couple of years, though, the princess began to get restless. She began to think she made a mistake marrying Toad.
“I’m a princess,” she thought. “I deserve a handsome prince.”
She told Toad what she was thinking. Toad was devastated. “As you wish,” he said. “Farewell, my love.”
The princess felt terrible. Perhaps she made a colossal mistake. So what if he’s not handsome. He’s my best friend, and he makes me laugh.
Not too long after this, she saw a man from afar. He was handsome as can be. She immediately fell in love. It was an indescribable feeling, as if a whole swarm of butterflies were fluttering in her stomach. She was certain she had found her prince.
She approached him and introduced herself.
“I know who you are,” he replied.
“But how?” said the Princess.
“Because I’m Toad,” he said.
“That’s impossible”
“After you left me, I transformed”
“You transformed?”
“Yes”
“But how?”
“I found my true love”
“Who is she?”
He pointed to a woman sitting at the bar. She was very attractive. The princess began to get jealous.
“But I thought I was your true love”
“You didn’t want me”
The Princess’ heart broke.
“I should never have left you,” she told him. “Would you ever take me back?”
“I need to be with someone who loves me for me,” he said. “And that’s not you”
“Ok Toad. Congratulations then.”
They parted ways. Toad lived happily ever after with his true love, while the Princess continued to look everywhere for her handsome prince, to no avail. She grew into an old, lonely woman, forever chasing after something she already had.
